Where the deep turquoise currents of the Indian Ocean brush the soft, sun-warmed shores of Mihiripenna, a quiet phenomenon unfolds under the cover of dusk. Named after the Japanese word for the sea firefly—Umihotaru—our sanctuary draws inspiration from the rare, luminous organisms that illuminate coastal waters, casting a soft, ethereal glow across the ocean floor.
Visual identity design
The concept of Umihotaru brings together five distinct elements into a single, cohesive identity: the sweeping curvature of the architectural blade, the serene arc of the crescent night moon, the fluid form of the sea, the soft wings of the sea firefly, and an all-encompassing 360° view. Interlocked within a geometric circle, the outer C-curve establishes a protective, panoramic frame, while the inner firefly-and-fish emblem acts as a focal destination point—symbolizing a gathering place where modern architectural luxury meets the natural glow of Mihiripenna’s coast.
